Criminal Penalties
Being outlawed in a number of states, distracted driving can lead to several criminal penalties. Some states have specific prohibitions on cell phone usage wile driving or allow the use of hands-free technology.

Many states outlaw texting while driving. If a driver is caught using their cellphone while driving or are caught engaging in other types of distractions while driving that the law prohibits, they may face serious fines.
Even if the state doesn’t prohibit a certain conduct that was caused by a distraction, they may be ticketed because of other infractions caused by their distracted driving, for example; crossing the center line, driving at higher or lower than the posted speeds.
